Incorporating Lifestyle Medicine for Chronic Medical Conditions Webinar

Lifestyle medicine is increasingly relevant today because it addresses the root causes of chronic diseases—such as type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and obesity—through behavior-based interventions like nutrition, physical activity, sleep, and stress management rather than relying solely on medications. It provides a holistic, evidence-based framework that helps individuals not only prevent disease but also improve chronic condition control and reduce dependence on medications through sustainable lifestyle changes. As healthcare costs rise and chronic conditions proliferate, lifestyle medicine offers a sustainable, patient-centered model that can transform outcomes and lower the national disease burden.

Lifestyle medicine can be integrated into chronic disease management by embedding evidence-based interventions—such as nutrition counseling, physical activity prescriptions, and stress reduction techniques—into routine primary care visits to address root causes rather than just symptoms. Shared medical appointments provide an effective model for implementing lifestyle changes by combining group education, coaching, and peer support for patients with similar conditions like diabetes or hypertension. Additionally, collaboration among physicians, dietitians, behavioral therapists, and exercise physiologists helps deliver holistic, sustainable care plans that improve outcomes and empower patients to manage their health long-term.

ACP Leadership Day
Date: May 12-13, 2026
Location: Washington, DC

Apply for Iowa ACP Leadership Day Sponsorship
Each year, Leadership Day brings internal medicine physicians, residents, and medical students from across the country to Washington, DC to advocate on behalf of their patients and the profession. This two-day event offers a unique opportunity to engage directly with U.S. lawmakers and their staff on issues that impact internal medicine and the care we provide.

To support Iowa’s voice in these important conversations, the Iowa Chapter of the American College of Physicians is pleased to offer sponsorship support for a limited number of members to attend Leadership Day.

Why attend Leadership Day? In addition to meeting with your members of Congress, participants receive in-depth briefings from White House officials, Capitol Hill staffers, and members of Congress, many of whom are among the nation’s top health care decision-makers.
  • Participants will also:
  • Receive a comprehensive orientation on ACP’s top legislative priorities
  • Earn Continuing Medical Education (CME) credits
  • Develop advocacy skills that can be applied locally and statewide
  • Connect with other internists who care deeply about advocacy, including colleagues from Iowa
  • Learn about policy issues that affect your practice and your patients
  • Get to know ACP leaders and staff
  • And enjoy the experience and camaraderie along the way
We encourage interested members to apply for Iowa ACP sponsorship and join us in representing Iowa at this important national advocacy event.
